Our Inspiration

Marramarra is a Wiradjuri word meaning to make or create.    MD Rohan Cooke is a proud Wiradjuri man and choose Marramarra as the name of the business to represent not only his culture but also new beginnings.

Wiradjuri is located in central New South Wales and is the largest Indigenous Country by area and population. Wiradjuri mob are known as “People of three rivers” -Macquarie River (Wambool), Lachlan River (Kalari) and Murrumbidgee River (Murrumbijeri) which borders their land.

To create a visual identity for Marramarra we engaged acclaimed, local indigenous artist Zac Bennett-Brook.

In Zac’s words – “The design features smooth flowing sections from the circular meeting places and bold hard lines that surround and link them all together. This artwork is all about overcoming challenges and obstacles (the lined sections) through the support networks we have around us (the various sized dotted sections). The colours in the artwork are a range of Blue/Green tones and a pop of Grey which reflects both our natural environment from the ocean, sky and trees, to the man-made environment of construction and development”.

About the artist

Zac a proud Indigenous man of Torres Strait Islander heritage who grew up in Wollongong (Dharawal Country). His art has commonly been called unique and often an eye-catching perspective of contempoary art blended with surf culture, for all to enjoy.

In a short time, he has gained worldwide recognition for his art with works being shipped to America, Japan, Canada, England, Spain and throughout Australia.

He strives to create artworks that are of the highest quality, representing his passion for surfing and our natural environment in conjunction with his Indigenous background to ultimately showcase his artistic flare. His ambition is to create and develop works which are engaging and aesthetically appealing, whilst allow Zac to grow artistically and professionally.
